Taxes and the Rich

I realize I’m kind of doing things piecemeal tonight instead of a full “Rational Reading” that I normally do but I haven’t had a lot of time to read through a lot of things yet so I’m doing it this way. John Stossel is another one of the columnists that I can’t wait to read and he has brilliant piece on the folly of raising taxes on the rich. Simply put, it doesn’t work. You try to punish them and take THEIR money that THEY have earned and they’ll just move someplace where there is no state income tax. Or business may move overseas to a country that has lower corporate taxes, take jobs and money with them. And why shouldn’t they? I can’t blame them at all for doing what they do. It’s not the government’s money and tax cuts aren’t handouts. It can’t be a handout since it wasn’t the government’s money to begin with. Rather, it’s the government letting you keep more of your money. In doing so, you or a business can put that money to better use than the government ever could and it will do more to stimulate the economy than any Porkulus Bill could ever hope to.
